Writing a Covering Letter for a Sales Job

Before you start writing a covering letter for a sales job, you need to need to ask yourself the following questions:

  • What type of company & industry is it?
  • What kind of role is it?
  • What competencies are they looking for?

Only once you answer these questions can you start to develop your covering letter. Your covering letter needs to:

  • Outline the job you are applying for and why
  • Explain why you are a good “fit” for the job and how you believe you can add value
  • Summarize your background and reinforce your “fit”
  • Incorporate action statements

To create a powerful covering letter, read our Sample Covering Letter and apply the writing techniques and layout detailed in How To Write A Covering Letter.
