22 Smith Avenue
16 January 20XX
Mr. Paul Montague
Computers for Business Pty Ltd
116 Independence Lane
Melbourne Vic 3000
Dear Mr. Montague,
I wish to apply for the position of Salesperson Trainee as advertised in The Age on the 14th of January 2008. In discussing the role with Alice Nguyen I have learnt you are offering a unique trainee position during an exciting period of growth in your organisation. I am highly motivated to progress to this B2B sales environment and invite you to consider my employment credentials.
I believe that one of the key personal qualities an individual can bring to a sales team is drive and enthusiasm. As my resume will attest, I have been continuously employed either part time or full time since the age of 15, demonstrating that I’m willing to ‘go the extra mile’.
My credentials include an outgoing, friendly nature, ideal for building relationships with customers. This is clearly demonstrated in my job as a retail assistant at Computers for You, where at least 50 % of my sales are from repeat business customers, and where I have sustained the highest sales figures for 3 years running.
I have worked in a retail sales environment for over four years. Through my own initiatives I have also successfully completed several accredited courses of particular relevance to sales and to your industry, including sales training and computer operating. This demonstrates not only that am I interested in IT sales, but I am always on the look out for new development opportunities. These attributes place me in an excellent position to progress to a B2B sales role in a trainee capacity.
I would appreciate an opportunity to discuss how I might contribute to Acme Computers Pty Ltd through a personal interview. You are welcome to call me, otherwise I will call you within the next couple of days to arrange for an interview at your convenience.
Thank you for your consideration.

Dynamic company – great entry level sales position
Acme Computers Pty Ltd is a key supplier of IT hardware and supporting software. Established for over 15 years, our niche customer market consists of a growing network of small businesses representing a range of Australian industries. Due to our growth plan in this B2B environment an outstanding trainee opportunity has arisen within the Sales Team.
This position reports to the Sales Manager and will operate in a small but dynamic sales team environment. Initially, the position will be a trainee role, with progression to fully fledged Sales Consultant expected within a twelve to eighteen month period.
So what do we require? The successful candidate will preferably be tertiary qualified but candidates with a relevant retail, sales or IT background will also be considered. The incumbent will require a high level of drive and determination to succeed, and must be open to the learning opportunities we will provide. A high level of communication skills, a friendly manner and the ability to develop strong relationships are key personal attributes needed to be considered for the position.
